Its defeat at the High Court was as avoidable as it was predictable. But even if it is granted an appeal hearing, it should desist from such action because any victory will simply serve to antagonise residents further ahead of elections in May. It might win the battle, but it will lose the war.

Parliament has clearly stated its intention that councils cannot make a profit on the parking revenue account to subsidise other operations. If more money is needed to pay for road maintenance issues, it should put a penny on council tax and end this pretence that the charge has been frozen (the public are not stupid) or it should find the money by cutting out several layers of unnecessary bureaucracy or reducing fat cat salaries for chief officers.Don't Call Me Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13602899129846028170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722474464197237668.post-27931068539670069162013-07-16T09:53:21.230+01:002013-07-16T09:53:21.230+01:00Based on my experience I have seem semi-private or...Based on my experience I have seem semi-private organization work more effectively than a completely autonomous private body. That decision should have been scrutinised and queried by the Unions and the taxpayer properly consulted. No surprise there is a £1 million bail out.

It should come as no surprise that Barnet Homes will be cut loose to become a full private company following a signature from the Housing Minister, followed later by a takeover from a Housing Association and function like a subsidiary. So yes, you are likely to see some more redundancies. As Councillor Salinger, Housing Leader at the time (2002)of creating Barnet Homes once put it, to paraphrase "no problem subject to a ballot, Barnet Homes could revert to full council control, privatised or rermain an ALMO". It's out there in the Hendon Times archive somewhere.

Will we get a ballot or be consulted on our housing? So far we have not.

Moaneybathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10549578132806472475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722474464197237668.post-55568962067319930782013-03-08T08:59:31.370+00:002013-03-08T08:59:31.370+00:00tee hee ...guilty as charged ...tee hee ...guilty as charged ...Mrs Angryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00586223909475832791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722474464197237668.post-67592477475687725482013-03-06T23:42:47.070+00:002013-03-06T23:42:47.070+00:00ha: well said, in your last paragraph especially. ...ha: well said, in your last paragraph especially. I had to explain to a 23 year old last week that the internet in practice didn't exist in 1985 ("why didn't you buy it online?") - or much later (and in reality until about 1999 either) - it was part of a discussion where all the arguments old fogies like us might give on how wonderful LPs are in comparison to CDs, or heaven forbid, MP3s etc. were given by him, but he didn't know what an LP was so had to rave on about the "great artwork and booklet notes" of compact discs as opposed to this horrible digital stuff. I felt old and confused. He was just (very) confused by it all. I wonder if his head would have exploded if I had mentioned the notion of dial-a-disc. 01-246 8071, wasn't that the number? As someone who is (trather boringly) Heterosexual, that is one challenge I don't have. I do however believe that it is important that those of us who are prepared to have our head shot off, to put it above the parapet. Some people have asked why on earth I chose to put details of my medical condition in the public domain. The answer is because there may be someone out there who is feeling scared and lonely and maybe that blogging it will in some small way help. That is why you deserve commending.
