Footage of residents barred from Hendon town hall

Rog T of the Barnet Eye blog has some footage of late-arriving residents being told they can't go in to watch the Barnet council meeting on 1 March - even though there are spare seats in the public gallery.

They're told this by a policeman and two security guards (no badges).

Roger's blogpost here.

The SIA, yes that vonderfool body who state "We are an independent body reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. Our mission is to regulate the private security industry effectively; to reduce criminality,"

..but do they check their licensees whom have migrated to the UK from abroad, for prior criminality in their home states? ,, "Our remit covers the United Kingdom." Have money travel to UK, get licensed!

Vicki: if you remember when we pointed out he couldn't do anything anyway, he shut up and backed off. I want to know who he is and if he is licensed.

Moaneybat: one flaw in the SIA approach is that each individual must be licensed, but not the named company as such, so it is difficult to ascertain if a company is acting lawfully at any given event. If someone is unidentified, for example,& you don't know their name, how do you check they are licensed?

Inform a Bobby the individual who is breaching the regulation at that moment. If the brickhead had laid a finger on you without his 'dog tag' on his person, that is an assault for which he could be arrested. Very difficult all this. Cllr Rajput with the BA LAW in dangerous dogs(LLB must've been difficult) could tell us.

The security people were quite right, dammit, one of those ruffians was wearing a cheese-cutter cap, frighfully common and, my dears, soooo 1930s.

Blessed are the cheese-cutters.

Or, it sounds like some venerable old trade union. General, Municipal and Cheese Cutters' Union.

I'm guessing we won't be seeing you on the demonstration on 26 March, Mr Duff. Too bad, you would have had a field day.

Me? On a demo?!!!

I reminded of the story about one of Noel Coward's chums who was caught on the beaches at Dunkirk and only just rescued in time. Reaching London, he made straight for the Ritz Bar where he knew he would find dear Noel and the gang, all of whom were delighted to see him and bombarded him with questions as to what it had been like over there. "My dears", he said, "Quite awful, the noise, the heat - the people!"

That friend of Noel, Duff: it was you, wasn't it? Oh please tell me it was: I am enjoying the thought of you in your longjohns and a louche smoking jacket, singing Mad About the Boy, and getting up to no good in the blackout ...

Madam, you are becoming over-excited, control yourself!
