A new name for my blog?

A well-wisher has suggested I change the name of my blog. "vickim57" is a mouthful and only means something to me: it was the name of my Hotmail account back in the days when Facebook, blogging, etc, were just a twinkle in someone's eye - oh, all of about 10 years ago. I wanted to be vickim but there were loads of them already (some of you will remember this kind of dilemma). I picked vickim57 because of the old Heinz slogan about 57 varieties.

The slogan has added significance to a Trot like me because there is a Stalinist joke about there being 57 varieties of Trotskyist, referring to the fissiparousness (wow!) of the Trotskyist movement - its tendency to split and form new, ever smaller groups (People's Front of Judea vs. Judean People's Front syndrome).

My choice of this name indicates, obviously, my extremely self-deprecating nature. So if I am to have a new name it will have to be something fairly modest. And I'm definitely a Ms, of course, rather than a Miss. Myself, I am thinking along the lines of "Comrade something" or "Citizen something."

If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment. I'll even take gratuitiously rude ones: better to be hated than to be ignored.

Well, we've got two "Mr" bloggers - Mustard and Reasonable, and a "Broken Barnet", so what is wrong with "Citizen Barnet" - it gives the location, and rather suggests that you have somewhat limited allegiance to the Queen, that is, Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

Citizen it is, then.

hmmm, baarnet not bad at all, except people might think she is a citizens' advice service (if there are any left in Barnet, which I am not sure about). Maybe Citizeness, Citoyenne? Let's have a think. Actually, maybe you should call yourself Mr something, Vicki, to fit in with the boy bloggers? This is where I went wrong, I think.

Well, I got off pretty lightly there, I think.

Comrade Complan - campaigning for everyone's right to weight loss?

I quite like I can't believe it's not Lenin but the last thing I want to become is a lefty blog (and some of you thought I was). Lefty blogs are notoriously bitchy and mostly turgid (and you thought I was...).

How about

Ms Tery ( repeat it quickly )

as opposed to Ms Tory !

I think you have to give us a few more clues as to what sort of image you want to project- you're sending out mixed messages, trying to confound the Tory boys with their knee jerk prejudices. (Let's face it, they are easily confounded, bless'em) ...

I've never worked out who Baarnett is, though I think I know! I like that suggestion the best so far. Has echoes of Wolfie Smith (Tooting Popular Front, "power to the people" and all that) - that's good, it doesn't do to take oneself too seriously.

But, yes, I am a red republican, and the Barnet in the name pins me down to this benighted borough. People could have no doubt what, primarily, I'm blogging about.

I'll mull it over for a couple more days, then, pow! You won't know what's hit you! (Ahem.)

or Red Barnet, (that would be a pleasant change)...
