Barnet council and the Sandbanks Hotel - a picture paints a thousand words

Barnet council executives have become notorious lately for their 'working trips' to the Sandbanks Hotel in Poole, Dorset, paid for by Barnet residents. This four-star hotel is located right on one of the best beaches in the UK - and 120 miles from Barnet. I visited Sandbanks in July 2011 to find out what draws the Barnet council elite here: from these pictures, I think we can begin to understand.

Welcome to the world famous (at least in Barnet) Sandbanks Hotel

At the end of a long, hard, erm, day in the conference suite, take time out to relax on the beach

Not what Mrs Angry would consider to be four star, no offence to Sandbanks. If it's not good enough for News Int, it's not good enough for me, I'm afraid.

You think we should be sending them to better places?!

I'm sure they make the most of the leisure facilities when they are visiting.

I should have taken a picture of the people lounging in the beach club but I just had too much shame. I don't have that killer paparazzi instinct...

I'm a disgrace to my profession!

no, I think the Comfort Inn in North Finchley is good enough for them: I'm thinking about us!

If I'd only known you were so close, Vicki, I would have rushed to be by your side. Just think, those moonlit walks along the sandy beach, my impassioned speeches telling you of the delights of the free market - oooh, be still my beating heart!

oh ... sorry. I'm intruding. I'll leave you to to get to know each other better ... a match made in heaven ...

Nah, Mrs. A! Nothing doing there, but, hey, what are you doing Saturday night? Oh no, not writing another of your interminable posts - again. Honestly, you 'Leftie wimmin', no fun at all!

(Exits with unopened champagne, twirling cane and moustachios.)

Mrs Angry is the very personification of fun, Mr Duff, but this is something that you are very unlikely to experience for yourself, alas. Still, plenty of docile milkmaids in Frome, I expect, who would be bowled over by your charms.

Really? Frome? Never been there but if you say so - now, where's my Very Old Spice - splash it on all over and off we go.
